Dr Barry McCabe

Dr Barry McCabe is a highly experienced Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon delivering comprehensive surgical care across Inner, South-West, and Western Sydney. With more than 14 years of specialist experience, he is recognised for combining advanced surgical expertise with a practical, patient-centred approach.

Dr McCabe trained at Westmead Hospital before completing accredited Specialist Colorectal Surgery training through CSSANZ at Bankstown and St George Hospitals in 2012. In the same year, he undertook advanced robotic surgery training in Sunnyvale, California, where he performed Australia’s first robotic trans-anal resection of a rectal tumour—highlighting his commitment to innovation and minimally invasive techniques. He was also awarded the prestigious Brian Smith Memorial Award for his research in colorectal cancer.

He now practices exclusively in the private sector and operates at Sydney Private Hospital, Holroyd Private Hospital, Westmead Private Hospital, and Minchinbury Community Hospital.

Dr McCabe offers a full spectrum of colorectal and general surgical services, with a particular focus on minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) techniques to optimise recovery and outcomes. He provides no-gap gastroscopy and colonoscopy for eligible patients with Medicare and private health insurance, along with affordable self-funded options.

In addition to complex colorectal surgery, Dr McCabe maintains a broad general surgical practice and performs a wide range of procedures under local anaesthetic in rooms—offering convenience, efficiency, and reduced recovery time.
He is GESA-accredited in both gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
