Cervical Screening Test
Routine Testing That Could Save Your Life
At Trinity Healthcare Centre, we encourage all eligible women and people with a cervix to prioritise their health with regular Cervical Screening Tests. This simple, quick test is designed to detect early signs of cervical cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer—well before symptoms appear.
The Cervical Screening Test has replaced the traditional Pap smear and is more accurate at identifying risk. It checks for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV), the virus that causes the majority of cervical cancers.
We recommend cervical screening every five years for people aged 25 to 74 who have ever been sexually active. Even if you’ve had the HPV vaccine, regular screening is still important.
The test is performed by one of our experienced female or male doctors, based on your preference, in a private and respectful setting. It takes only a few minutes and can offer long-term peace of mind.
What to Expect and How to Prepare
Your GP at Trinity Healthcare Centre will explain the procedure and answer any questions before the test begins. During the appointment:
A small sample of cells is collected from the cervix using a soft brush
The sample is sent to a lab for HPV testing
Results are usually available within a week, and your doctor will contact you to discuss them
We’ll also take the opportunity to talk about your general reproductive health, contraception (if relevant), and any concerns you might have. If you’re nervous or unsure about the test, our team is here to support you every step of the way.
Cervical screening is a routine part of preventive healthcare—and one of the most effective ways to detect and prevent cervical cancer early.
